Emmett Redd

Dr. Emmett Redd received his Ph.D. in Physics in 1986 from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly, the University of Missouri at Rolla). His Ph.D. studies concerned ion-atom collisions at velocities about 1/100 of the speed of light. He joined Missouri State in 1988, teaching first in the Industrial Management department. Now in the Physics, Astronomy, and Material Sciences department, he still mainly teaches electronics in addition to general physics. With Dr. A. Steven Younger at the Jordan Valley Innovation Center, he is using optical computing to study artificial neural networks and (the seemingly oxymoronic) fixed-weight learning in them.
