John Wilson

John F. Wilson was born in Springfield, MO and graduated from Springfield (now Central) High School. He received university degrees at Harding University and the University of Iowa (Ph.D.) He was one of the founding members of the Department of Religious Studies at Missouri State University and was a faculty member at MSU until 1983 when he was appointed Dean of Seaver College of Arts, Letters and Science at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA (1983-1998). He was Professor of Religion and Director of the Institute for the Study of Archaeology and Religion and is now Professor Emeritus at Pepperdine. He was Project Director of the Banias (Israel) Archaeological Project and also excavated at Capernuam and Jerusalem in Israel. Wilson has made numerous appearances on radio and television and has lectured throughout the world. He is the author of a popular college textbook Religion: A Preface (New York: 1988), Caesarea Philippi: Banias, the Lost City of Pan (London: 2004) and many other publications. He has been listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in Biblical Studies and Archeology.
